Alena Matejkova - "Magic Carpets"
"If you are going to see the Jerwood exhibition, witch runs until March 21st, you woun't beable to miss Alena Matejkova's "Magic Carpets" displayed in the NGC reception area. The innovative Czech had been pushing at the boundaries of glass technology during her period as artist in residence and the latest "carpet" - an extraordinary rippled slab of yellow glass witch really does look as if it could fly - is her latest triumph" (The Journal, UK, 2004)
The project was realised in co-operation with the Institute for International Research in Glass, University of Sunderland, National Glass Centre, Sunderland and Visiting Arts in London.
